Capcom is not worried about the fully digital future of the industry

Capcom is not at all concerned about the industry's possible complete transition to a digital format, as 90% of their sales are already digital.

Is the future "digital"?

The idea of the gaming industry's complete transition to a digital format continues to be actively discussed. Against the background of decisions by other corporations, in particular Sony's plans to stop producing discs for the PS5 from January 2028, the question of the future of physical media is more acute than ever. However, one of the most famous developers — the Capcom company — is not at all concerned about such a prospect.

Why Capcom is not worried:

  • About 90% of the company's game sales are already digital copies.
  • During a recent Q&A session as part of the financial report, management was asked directly about the impact of the shrinking physical media market. The answer was concise: no significant impact is expected.

Although many players, especially avid collectors of Nintendo Switch games, still prefer cartridges, major publishers are gradually adapting to the new reality.
