Capcom Discusses the Painstaking Process of Bringing Monster Hunter Wilds to Switch 2

The producer of Monster Hunter Wilds spoke about the complex and painstaking process of porting the game to Nintendo Switch 2.

The Journey of Monster Hunter Wilds to Nintendo Switch 2

Capcom is preparing to release the ambitious action RPG Monster Hunter Wilds on Nintendo Switch 2 on December 4, 2026. The version for the new console will include all update content, local wireless multiplayer, full crossplay, and a free demo ahead of the release.

The game's producer, Genki Sunano, discussed the challenges of porting such a massive project to Nintendo's new platform in an interview with Kotaku.

Optimization Without Compromise

According to the developers, the team aimed to avoid creating a simple port with downgraded settings:

“The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Monster Hunter Wilds was developed with the concept of providing players with an authentic Wilds experience. We didn't want the game to look like a generic port where graphics and performance were simply lowered just to get it running. Our goal was to preserve the spirit of Wilds without compromise. The game contains a colossal number of elements, so we thoroughly analyzed every asset and processing task, determining what had to stay and what could be optimized. This painstaking, at times endless process of decision-making and optimization became one of the biggest challenges in creating a comfortable handheld gameplay experience.”

What Awaits Players

  • Release on December 4, 2026, on Nintendo Switch 2;
  • All current content updates, including the collaboration with Final Fantasy XIV;
  • Crossplay with all platforms and local play;
  • Free Prologue Demo prior to the game's release.
